Arabic Language Resources
There are a variety of free resources that your student can use to add some expressions to their repertoire and help their long-term memory!
Duolingo
Duolingo is a wonderful, free phone app (and has a useful web-based version too) that offers interactive practice in around 40 different languages. It gamifies much of the learning and encourages developing positive daily study habits. While there is an option to pay, you can do absolutely everything without paying. This is a must try!
Website | iOS | Android
Language Transfer
This Arabic course is audio-only following a famous language learning system (the Michel Thomas method). It is entirely free and if you stick with it, you will learn a lot. It is pretty intensive, but with diligence come rewards.
Website
Madinah Arabic
While it isn’t as flashy as some sites, Madinah Arabic gets the job done neatly and efficiently. It offers some introductory lessons, lessons on reading the Arabic alphabet, followed by lessons on commonly used phrases. Each unit includes YouTube videos with native speakers providing pronunciation. This would be a good site to use for someone who is very motivated to learn more after (or during) the program.
Website
Spotify Playlists
If you already use Spotify for music (or really any other music streaming service), why not check out some modern music in Arabic. Search "Top Arabic Music", "Modern music in Egypt (or any other Arabic-speaking country)", or "Arabic rock/rap/pop 2023" and you will find many curated playlists of music that is popular in the Arabic-speaking world today. Even if you don't understand anything in the beginning, you're still likely to find something catchy that might motivate you to check out (and every learn some of) the lyrics. Nothing helps the memory like music!
